In a world where natural disasters can strike at any moment, being prepared is not just a choice but a necessity.
Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation (CLFI) recently visited the municipality of Agoncillo in Batangas to interview survivors, rescuers, and local government officials regarding the Taal volcanic eruption that hit them in 2020.
This video documentation will be used to educate Filipinos on volcanic eruption preparedness for the fifth episode of 𝐶𝑒𝑏𝑢𝑎𝑛𝑎 𝐴𝑙𝑒𝑟𝑡𝑜, a disaster-preparedness video series produced by CLFI.
CLFI chose this municipality as it was one of the most severely affected communities during the latest Taal volcanic eruption.
Supported by relevant government agencies, CLFI launched 𝐶𝑒𝑏𝑢𝑎𝑛𝑎 𝐴𝑙𝑒𝑟𝑡𝑜 last September 2023 to empower barangays with the skills and knowledge needed to stand strong in the face of calamities.
“At this current dispensation where natural and man-made disasters are more severe and frequent, we believe in CLFI that it is our responsibility to share knowledge and skills so that everyone would be prepared, empowered, and equipped,” expressed Jonathan Batangan, Executive Director of Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation.
Cinderella Reyes, the municipal mayor of Agoncillo, highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness in the community, and empowering every individual to take conscious actions to save oneself and others:
“𝐴𝑛𝑔 𝑔𝑜𝑏𝑦𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑜 𝑎𝑦 𝑙𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑛𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑡𝑜, 𝑛𝑎𝑘𝑎ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑎 𝑢𝑝𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑢𝑙𝑢𝑛𝑔𝑎𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑔𝑎 𝑘𝑎𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑎𝑦𝑎𝑛 𝑠𝑎 𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑠 𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑔𝑎 𝑘𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑑𝑎𝑑. 𝑆𝑢𝑏𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑡 𝑛𝑎𝑝𝑎𝑘𝑎ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑔𝑎 𝑑𝑖𝑛 𝑛𝑎 𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑚 𝑛𝑔 𝑏𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑠𝑎 𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑔𝑎 𝑔𝑎𝑔𝑎𝑤𝑖𝑛 𝑢𝑝𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑙𝑢𝑛𝑔𝑎𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝑠𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑙𝑖 𝑎𝑡 𝑘𝑎𝑝𝑤𝑎 𝑙𝑎𝑏𝑎𝑛 𝑠𝑎 𝑚𝑔𝑎 𝑠𝑎𝑘𝑢𝑛𝑎.”
𝐶𝑒𝑏𝑢𝑎𝑛𝑎 𝐴𝑙𝑒𝑟𝑡𝑜 is hosted by Dr. Ted Esguerra, a rescue operations expert who is also an operational medicine instructor at the International Disaster Response Network. During its first season, the program released three episodes through its Facebook and YouTube channels with topics on river and flood safety, earthquake preparedness and response, and first aid and improvised life-saving solutions.
