Jean Henri Lhuillier, the CEO and President of Cebuana Lhuillier, reaffirms the commitment of Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation to help barangays build resilience through the annual Barangay Resilience Exchange (BRX) Digital Conference.
Magandang umaga sa inyong lahat. Before I begin, I’d like to welcome our attendees from local communities led by our barangay chairmen and their respective councils, members of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Committee, the Sangguniang Kabataan Council, and all of those are joining us from Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao.
I would like to also greet and commend our brave and hard working LGU officers and the men and women who will serve as our key resource persons for the two-day conference. On behalf of Cebuana Lhuillier, Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation, and the local communities who will benefit from this discussion, maraming salamat sa inyong tulong at suporta.
I welcome all of you to the BRX Baranggay Resilience Exchange 2022 Digital Conference. Thanks to the internet and web conferencing technology, we could all gather and learn from each other wherever you may be in the Philippines.
I know that connectivity could still be a challenge in some islands in the Philippines. Our plan for BRX next year is to hold regional face-to-face conferences so we could reach out to more barangays from remote locations.
Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the PJL Group of Companies, launched BRX at the height of the pandemic in 2021, as an initiative towards nation building. We believe in inclusivity – we believe that no barangay and no family should be left behind.
For this year, the BRX is proud of its theme, “Ang laging handang barangay ay mahusay.” After all, disaster preparedness, mitigation, and resilience begin within the most basic structure of government, our local communities.
We created the BRX platform to reach out to the sector that is most affected and needs to learn the most in disaster risk reduction – our local barangays. Our barangay officials serve as the frontliners who assist the whole community during disasters. We do understand that you want to learn safety guidelines, and new tools and technologies in disaster management.
It is our hope that through BRX, we can all do our share in preventing and reducing disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods, economies, and basic infrastructure. And in the aftermath of every disaster, we can also help each other in recovery and rehabilitation.
Now, more than ever, with all the challenges that the world and our country are facing, we need to put our acts together.
In this two-day event, we are bringing together great minds and passionate resource persons who will generously share their knowledge so we can empower each other to be resilient.
Let BRX be a platform where industry experts could provide a better understanding on the latest developments in building disaster resilient communities, explore potential partnerships, and identify opportunities to grow.
Thank you, and good morning.
